Zilla Schoeman

Zilla Schoeman is a West Coast–based fine artist, visual artist, illustrator and designer living in Langebaan, South Africa.

 

She works predominantly in watercolour, drawn to the intimacy of small formats that allow for close observation, experimentation and detail. Her paintings capture mood and moment — often quiet, slightly surreal, and rooted in nature, animals and imagined spaces.

Her process is slow and layered, blending delicate washes with graphic line work added toward the end of each piece, reflecting her parallel practice as a designer.

Colour plays a central role in her work, used to bring a sense of presence,

curiosity and subtle joy into the everyday.
